The feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel, April 26, brought very special blessings to the community with the Profession of Vows of Brother Christopher Isaac Duffy.
After two and a half years of prayer, study and formation, Brother Christopher publicly pronounced his First Vows as a Slave following the Offertory of the Mass. After signing his vows on the altar, he received the habit of a Brother and the awesome promise of Christ spoken through the priest: “…and I, on the part of God, if you keep these vows, promise you eternal life.”
Brother then left the chapel and returned dressed in the cassock and cincture of a professed Slave of the Immaculate Heart of Mary; and the Mass continued.
Afterward, those attending assured Brother of their prayers and best wishes before they celebrated and enjoyed a piece of cake. A reception was held later that afternoon for close friends and family, giving them a chance to visit with the newly professed.
The Mass, ceremony and celebration was the perfect climactic ending to a truly beautiful Easter week and, as Father Roy had pointed out in his memorable homily, the beginning of a new generation for the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. May many more young men find the strength to answer the call of Christ and the willingness to follow “Jesus through Mary.”
