Well, another summer of Morning Star Camp has come and gone! This year marked the 10th anniversary of the opening of Montfort Retreat Center! Over the years many campers have passed through the iron gates of Montfort that lead into what we like to call, “a little piece of heaven.”
Girls from across the country came to enjoy the camaraderie they share in the Faith, make new friends and participate in wholesome activities, all in the beautiful natural surroundings of God’s creation. This was our second year with four week-long summer camp programs – Leadership, Teen, and two regular Summer Camp weeks.
The Leadership Camp was sprinkled with a Fatima theme in celebration of the 100th year anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions. Aside from talks given by Sisters and guest speakers the girls learned various things from First Aid, how to pray in sign language, how to check oil and change a tire on a car, and received a few tips in a professional archery course.
No sooner had our leaders left than… a new group of 100 girls arrived and our first week of the traditional Morning Star Summer Camp schedule launched off! The tried and true program weaves together a balance of faith, catechism, art and music with sports, boating and waterfront activities!
We had our first ever Teen Week at Morning Star Camp! A midpoint between Leadership and Regular week styles, it was a wonderful merge of catechesis, activities and events for campers ages 13-16. The week was on the cooler and rainier side but nevertheless the girls had fun with a scavenger hunt, exciting ‘fire art’ projects, hair-do contests, and one of the most memorable events on our last drizzly day-an indoor campfire at the lodge! It was a great success with fantastic response and spirit from the campers.
The fourth week of Morning Star for 2017, found every bunk filled and the cabin villages alive and happy with lots of campers! The vivacious group of girls from across the country made MSC even more colorful and exciting, making lots of new friends, and having so much fun! Thanks to our fantastic counselors (from all weeks) the grand finale week was just as smooth, safe and successful as the first!
Thanks be to God for a wonderful summer, we hope you had a good time. See you next year! May Our Lady Morning Star bless you!
