Morning Star Camps 2015

The countdown for Morning Star Camp begins the day the camp brochure is delivered to the mailboxes of almost 300 catholic girls across the country! The vivacious groups of happy campers, (some who have waited two years to get in) attests to the popularity of MSC’s program among the Catholics in this country. This was the 8th season of MSC at its permanent home at Montfort Retreat in New Hampshire, and the 33rd season since the camp began in 1982 in the convent backyard!

msc15collageA full staff of Sisters and counselors along with 15 cabins filled with campers made the weeks enjoyable! Mission Hall was a center of activity for meals, crafts and entertainment… and Catechism classes and musical activities were broken up into various areas across the grounds. The new Nurse's Station was busy (but with nothing big, thank God!) and added a nice base for the waterfront beach area. If campers didn't feel like swimming or boating, there was always some crafting to do on the front porch which provided a great view of all the great sailing!

Daily Mass and evening Rosary and Benediction were the special ingredients that unified the program and gave it a spiritual backbone of prayer thanks to the Fraternity of Saint Peter. We felt honored to have Father Daniel Heenan as our Chaplain for the entire two weeks. Father also contributed to the spiritual growth of campers also when he chatted during meal times or on the front porch of the Saint Joseph Chaplain’s Cabin. Every day, a question and answer period after lunch enabled those unfamiliar with the Latin Mass to plumm the depths of its beauty and symbolism! What wonderful opportunity for these young Catholics!

Most evenings ended with lively campfire sing-alongs, with the exception of “Movie Night” and the last night which is the traditional “Talent Night,” a time of great memories and laughs! Following this, campers joined in a candlelight procession to the majestic Morning Star Chapel which climaxed in Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and closed with the singing of Compline.

May Our Lady Morning Star guide and protect each of our campers and staff members so that they may always walk in her light; and may the Light of the World bless all who have donated time, food, goods or supported in prayer this beautiful work! May you be eternally rewarded!
