What is Morning Star Camp?

There are hundreds of different Summer Camps for children to choose from these days, camps specializing in their favorite sport or hobby, from horseback riding to violin playing. Then what makes a simple camp like MSC so appealing? At Morning Star, along with fun and friends, the focus is on the Faith. From arts and crafts to sailing and swimming to campfires on the lakeside, girls experience the peace of keeping the spirit of Christ in everything they do. Uninhibited by the pressures of having “an image” according to the current fashions, they find here the freedom to be themselves.
Morning Star is a life-changing experience reaching one soul at a time, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and prayer. All the activities begin and are centered around developing a richer sense of the spiritual life. This instills in the girls a deeper meaning and value to their lives. Each day is started with prayer and ends with prayer. Morning Star Campers learn that to be good, to be pure, and to be Catholic is an exciting adventure that carries through all activities and behavior!
It's not just a camp…it's a mission!

Through the years…For the past twenty-two years the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have been providing a Catholic camp for girls aged 9-18. Morning Star had its beginnings in the convent backyard, where campers slept on cots in a tent borrowed from the nearby army base. All the classes and activities took place on the convent grounds except for the afternoon ride to the town pond, and a day trip to the ocean.
When the number of campers was topping 60 we relocated to Camp Wampanaog in western MA. There rugged camping was in store. Two-man tents (with platforms), and a garage made up the camp grounds. But the attractive difference was, it was all located on a lake, though it should have been named Swampanoag! The campers thought it was great compared to the convent backyard; now we had swimming, canoeing and sailing!
Graduating from this rustic environment after four years, we began to rent the ideal campground at Lake Monomonac. It has a beautiful lodge, kitchen, cabins, chapel, swimming and boating beaches, a playing field and basketball court; lakefront property–nestled in the picturesque setting of New Hampshire’s woods. There we have had to limit the number of campers to 80 girls, but have extended the camp experience to two weeks, one for Leadership training (14-18 year-olds) and one just for fun (9-18). Campers come from all over the country for an unforgettable week...or two.
Sadly, we will be unable to rent Camp Monomonac any longer, since the property is to be parcelled out and sold. Property for the camp is now more important than ever. A private location will enable the Sisters the freedom and versatility to continue to expand the summer camp program which has already helped so many girls, not only for a week, but for a lifetime!
