Shouting from… the Street Corners of Boston!

Our in-house printing has enabled us to print a surplus of our publication, From the Housetops to distribute free as part of our evangelizing apostolate. This summer we began by handing out 12,000 free magazines to tourist, businessmen, and shoppers in the heart of downtown Boston. We talked to each person, encouraging him to read the publication, which features the life of a saint and contains many other inspirational articles that will give them the much needed direction and healing that only the Church can provide. Enclosed in each magazine is a flyer and postcard. One side of the flyer says:

Tolle et Lege–Take and Read!
When Saint Augustine heard some Roman children chanting, “Take and Read,” as they played in the street, it was the final grace in his conversion.
Following the children’s command, he picked up the book in front of him and read these words from Saint Paul,
Let us walk honestly, as in the day: not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and impurities, not in contention and envy. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ: and make not provision for the flesh in its concupiscences. (Romans 13:13,14)
He was soon after baptized.
Attributing his salvation to the grace received from the written word, he became a prolific writer, inspiring generations and leading them to the truth.
From the Housetops is filled with such literature written by the saints or about them. It too may be the grace of your salvation! Take and Read… and pass it on!

The other side of the flyer says:
Our Churches are closing! There’s a shortage of Priests! Catholic Schools – a thing of the past?
The Faith is being lost!

In these troubled times we need spiritual direction and encouragement more than ever before. Learn how to cope with the problems and burdens of life by reading the writings of the Saints – Get From the Housetops!
It is our hope that the unsought moment of grace will touch the souls we met through the reading of the publication. We ask your prayers for this work as we continue to distribute 30,000 copies throughout the summer months.

Quomodo Dicitur?

Latin may be a “dead language” to some people, but it is alive and well to the students at IHM!
This March thirty Immaculate Heart of Mary students participated in the National Latin Exams competing with 134,000 other scholars from the United States and 13 foreign countries.
Twenty-one were recognized for their ability. In Fourth Year, Anthony Fill received  a gold medal, Summa Cum Laude, and Third Year Teresa Madrigal was given Cum Laude. In the Second Year level,  Michael Duffy was awarded Magna Cum Laude,  and his brother, Christopher Duffy and Michelle Williams received gold medals Summa Cum Laude. Jane McGuire took a silver medal, Maxima Cum Laude.
Seven First Year students received gold medals, Summa Cum Laude: Andrew Beer, Veronica Alexander, Sean Keller, Ian Vicherek, Ma’Kayla Olden, Samantha Oldfield and Felicia Sulmonte. Four Introduction to Latin students were given Outstanding Achievement awards: Mary-Kate Duffy, Maureen Crory, Yvonne Dion and Veronica Vicherek, with  a perfect score.  The treasures of the Latin language are being rediscovered in a small way around the world opening a vista of opportunity to those who are courageous enough to apply themselves.
