Spring 2009
Ora et Labora
Montfort Retreat Wish List, posted during our “Open House” this fall, enumerated many things including a four wheel vehicle and canoes. Early this spring to our surprise, Rick Malone, of Clearview farms, generously donated two utility vehicles to the Retreat. These very useful (and fun) carts have been named Ora and Labora after the motto of the Benedictines: “ Work and Pray.” The addition of these vehicles to Montfort Retreat will be invaluable on the 150 acre site which now has a very large playing field, not to mention the mile-long road to the street.
Two additional canoes also resulted from our wish list request. A beautiful aluminum one was donated by Fred Moriarity and another will arrive soon, given by Harry Saucier. We thank God for sending us these generous benefactors, who help make our apostolate possible by their generosity. They are in our prayers everyday.

A Visit from Nigeria
On May 5th, Father Sumich, a member of the Fraternity of Saint Peter visited the Center with a slide presentation of the Fraternity’s Mission in Africa. The incredible faith of the people and yearning for traditions was a real eye-opener to the audience both at the well-attended night lecture and school assembly. Father’s humor and enthusiasm was catchy and drew a great response from adults and students alike. The next day after celebrating Mass, he bestowed the special blessing of a newly ordained priest on the religious and the congregation. He will remain in our prayers for the success of his work.

Sign of the Times
At last Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel and School at Saint Benedict Center replaced the little home made sign on Route 110 with one professionally made by Bob Kranz of Clinton, MA. The “sign” that it was about time get a new one came when the town plows lifted the old one out of the ground as they plowed during a snow storm this winter. Now you cannot miss us!
