IHM Yard Sale & Bazaar
The annual fall Bazaar sported some summer weather this year…but that didn't stop the bargain hunters, and apple pie buyers from coming in droves! The field in front of the Chapel was a colorful place, buzzing with all kinds of activity! From the big yard sale tent to the bouncy-house and cotton candy stand, on to the "big tent" where there was everything from baked goods galore to antiques, books, clothing and even a stuffed animal booth! Once again, the Korean food was a big hit, along with the Corn Dogs and Fried Dough; and thanks to the heat, the cold drinks and popsicles were popular items! It was another great success!

Montfort Retreat Update!

The fall colors are closing in around Montfort Retreat, with promise of the coming winter. But September was a fruitful month up in Washington, paying off with some very impressive sights! Thanks to the on-going hard work of the Brothers and volunteers, the cabin areas have been cleared, and platforms have begun to be erected; the bath house has been started; preparations are being made for the Chapel; and the Lodge has now been roofed and enclosed completely! Work will of course continue until the snow puts an end to the progress for this year; but the excitement is mounting, as the dream becomes a reality!

Progressing in Washington NH!
Montfort Retreat in Washington NH has progressed over the summer months through the continual labor of the Brothers! The Dining Hall is painted and roofed and the electric and water lines are set; the beams of the Lodge have been lifted into place and the roofing is in progress; even the road to the future chapel site is finished. The Sisters have headed north to check out the progress at off-hours, and on August 31st, took a group of girls to see the property and begin clearing the brush from the future cabin areas. So Montfort Retreat is taking shape, and the hard work is definately paying off! Thanks to all volunteers who have helped out over the summer months! Unfortunately there was not always a camera there to capture your generous assistance…but your reward will be eternal!

Sacrament of Confirmation … August 25, 2007
History was made here at Saint Benedict Center when the first Confirmation ever, took place at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel on August 25th. The Most Rev. Robert J. McManus, Bishop of the Diocese of Worcester, bestowed the Sacrament of Confirmation on fifty confirmandi in the Traditional Rite. The Bishop's moving address to the Confirmandi and the Sponsors, the majestic ceremony and the reverence of Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament that followed, left everyone truly impressed. It was a beautiful day (despite the intense heat) and one that will long be remembered here at SBC! Deo Gratias! This slideshow is accompanied by the words of the Bishop to the Confirmandi recorded during that sacred ceremony.

Montfort Boys' Camp … July 8-14, 2007
Swimming, sailing, fishing…softball, football, volleyball… boxing, archery, target shooting, water gun war games – even a little fencing … are just a few things that make the week at Montfort Camp the manly experience that every boy remembers! This year over 85 boys from across the country joined the Brothers for a week of fun-filled activity and competition. Thanks to a great group of counselors, volunteers…and campers, Montfort Camp 2007 was a great success!

Morning Star Girls' Camp … July 1-7, 2007
100 happy campers from across the country converged on Lake Wampanoag once again this year for another memorable year of Morning Star Camp with the Sisters and MSC Counsellors. A colorful and jam-packed schedule had once again been prepared …and campers, new and old, were anxious to get started! Whether it was sailing and boating or arts and crafts, archery, or shopping for bargains at the concession stand… this enthusiastic group enjoyed every moment…and went home sunburnt and tired– but bubbling with stories, and memories of friends, new and old, that will last a lifetime!

School Year Ends… Class of 2007 bids Farewell
The long awaited day had finally arrived!! June 8th found the uniformed students of IHM, flocking to school for the last day of the '06-'07 school year. The 8th Grade Graduation and Award Ceremony was a fitting end to a wonderful year! And for four students…it was their last day here at IHM. On Sunday, June 10th, four students who have attended IHM since first grade, bid farewell to their school years when they received their long awaited diplomas. May the Immaculate Heart guide these graduates into the promising future. Congratulations!!!

IHM Field Day
2007 …Blue vs. Gold
Competition was running high at IHM on Friday, June 1st, as students screamed and cheered on their team members in a variety of Field Day activities. The school was divided into the Blue Team and the Gold Team…and with each event points were accumulated. The day started off with the Junior High Boys' Street Hockey game…and then continued in high spirits through the Long Jump, the Jr. High and High School Girls' Basketball Game, the High School Boys' Street Hockey game …and then finally to the Elementary grades' races and activities, softball throw, tug-of-war etc. In the end, everyone had a great day… and the Gold team members proudly took the 2007 title of Field Day Winners!

May Procession 2007

All the grounds had been prepared, the flowers arranged for the Altar, and everything was ready for the May Procession… but still the forecast of rain for Sunday, May 20th remained the same. So despite the grey skies and drizzling rain the procession proceded as planned and as Marian Hymns echoed through the valley, an array of banners…and umbrellas…followed the route; crowning five statues, praying the rosary and finally ending with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament . It was a wet day to remember…but surely Our Lady was pleased to see that she has no "fair weather friends" here!

Fatima Lunch…Italian Style!
Every year the Junior and Senior Classes (with the help of the Sisters) prepare a feast for IHM's celebration of Our Lady of Fatima. This year students celebrated Italian style! So, as the Santa Lucia and other Italian songs played in the background, students and faculty relished a delicious Italian meal…were entertained by a variety of speeches, skits, singing and poetry…and then finished up with a full-fledged ice cream cone…complete with sprinkles! This was not your averaged day at school!!!

And the Band played on…
At 7:30 p.m. of Friday night, May 11th – a flood of IHM students, parents, friends and relatives converged upon the Nashoba High School Auditorium for the Annual Spring Concert performed by IHM Band. Beginning with the Star Spangled Banner… the band entertained their audience with a colorful selection of music ranging from Sousa's Semper Fidelis, to the Irish Washerwoman, to the Magnificent Seven etc. Enjoy a little of the sights and sounds of that enjoyable night in this slideshow set to the band's performance of Sousa's "Semper Fidelis " recorded during the Concert.

Jesus, Jesus, Come to Me!
On the beautiful morning of May 5th, ten second graders welcomed Jesus into their souls for the first time. The altar was arrayed with white flowers which reflected the purity and joy of the young First Communicants who were also dressed all in white from head to foot. Although photos are not allowed during the sacred moment of that First Holy Communion …this slideshow will show the children being enrolled in the Brown Scapular…and other beautiful moments of the memorable day.

Haec Dies! Holy Week at SBC 2007
With the triumphant procession of Palm Sunday, the rich and solemn ceremonies of Holy Week draw near. Holy Thursday with the sacred institution of the Holy Eucharist and the silent all-night vigil. Good Friday when the silence of Calvary is broken by the singing of the Passion and the faithful pay Adoration to the Holy Cross on their knees. And on Holy Saturday, the Lumen Christi bursts forth in the blessing of the new fire and that sacred Paschal Vigil leads joyfully to the flower-decked altar of a triumphant Easter Sunday Mass! May the Light of Christ shine in your hearts this Paschal season, as it did in all those who were able to take part in the Sacred Triduum here at SBC! Alleluia!
* Music recorded during Holy Saturday Mass in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel.

Parading Saint Patrick…
March 17th found IHM School decked out in shamrocks…and over a foot of ice and snow! But there was plenty to do to celebrate the big feast. A commitee trekked into Boston to assemble the float for the next days parade…and then of course the evening was filled with the Irish songs, dancing, skits and music of the annual IHM Talent Night. But St. Patrick's day doesn't end there at SBC! The next day found the school band in great marching shape (despite the freezing wind and snow!) as they brought their music to the streets of South Boston and proudly played behind the school float decked with angels and St. Patrick, himself!
