Spring is Sprung!

E-mail Print PDF

The grass is green here in Still River! The flowering trees are blooming, flowers are popping up everywhere and yes, spring is finally sprung in New England!

It's hard to believe that we are in the final quarter of the school year, with one event-packed month ahead before graduation and summer vacation! But for now, the studying continues in Still River, against a background of a valley of blossoming trees and afternoons and weekends filled with parades and baseball games to attend! Go Eagles!

Outdoor Spring cleanup took a new twist this year which included taking down some enormous pine trees in the convent backyard. Special thanks to friend and neighbor Loren Johnson, who felled them like an expert! Brother Anthony did the stump removal and the Sisters chipped the branches to use for cover in our asparagus field.

MacIsaac Hall has also progressed during the month of April. Siding and painting make the finishing touch, as work inside continues… it is stunning building in every way! Like steady workers in the Lord's vineyard, the Brothers continue chipping away at this masterpiece of construction. A few donations wouldn't hurt to finish the plumbing inside, along with the many other details!

With so much going on here at SBC, it's easier to take a photo than write it out! A picture says a thousand words, so enjoy this new spring slideshow and stay tuned for updates!

Lone Star Weekend

The "Lone Star State" once again welcomed Our Lady, The Morning Star, whose presence was felt during the mini-camp at the Latin Mass community of Mater Dei parish in Dallas, Texas on April 12-13, 2013.

Five Sisters, Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, flew from Boston to provide the program which started on Friday, April 12, with an array of morning activities for boys and girls and then an afternoon walk/hike for families at the nearby Campion Trail. That evening, a dinner in the Parish Hall, gave parents and college students a chance to learn about the work of the Slaves of The Immaculate Heart at Saint Benedict Center and meet the Sisters.

Pro-Life Award

E-mail Print PDF

The annual Mass for Life was celebrated by Bishop Robert J. McManus on Monday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Worcester. Celebrating the Solemnity of the Annunciation, a feast day with special theological significance for the pro-life cause, since it celebrates the moment when God the Son assumed human nature in Mary’s womb.

Students from the Catholic Schools of the diocese packed the Cathedral to join in the Mass and award ceremony. The Mother Teresa Pro-Life Award, the Ruth V. K. Pakaluk Pro-Life Youth Award, and the Gospel of Life Award, given annually to individuals who have shown heroic witness to the intrinsic value of each human life, were presented.

Brother Peter Mary was honored to be the recipient of the "Gospel of Life Award" which the Bishop presented to him for his stand against pro-choice politicians who were assigned to sponsor IHM Band in a recent parade.

Close to Home

Thanks to Molly Finn, the new host of "Close to Home" (a Worcester Community Cable Access Television program about people and situations that promote the dignity of Human Life) the Brothers were recently on a televised interview for the Year of Faith which focused on vocations to Religious Brotherhood.

The two programs filmed encompassed everything from our new Holy Father to the current controversy over IHM band pulling out of a St. Patrick's Parade in protest of being assigned a sponsor who does not reflect Catholic values.

It was a great chance to explain the vocation to be a Brother, fundamental to the life of the Church, a role so Saint Joseph-like.

Thank you, Molly Finn for the opportunity to reach the local community. We look forward to working with you again.

Check out the videos of the Vocation interview and the Vocation Continued program!
