Saint Benedict Center

Immaculate Heart of Mary students in grades 7–12 are eligible for the marching band. Members must maintain satisfactory grades in academic subjects and demonstrate exemplary behavior in school and while attending all band functions. Membership in band is a great opportunity in musical acheivement, but it also has its resoponsibilities. Active members march in approximately ten parades a year.
Immaculate Heart of Mary Band, directed by Br. Peter Mary, MICM, and Br. Anthony Marie, MICM, has been performing for 20 years. As the only extra-curricular activity at IHM school, students are urged to join the band in 7th grade and continue through to 12th grade. The Band marches in about a dozen parades in local cities and
towns during the school year.
Dedicating all their works to Our Blessed Mother, and with increased musical knowledge and an emphasis on discipline in marching and performance, the band experience is an excellent "physical re-enforcement" of the virtues and academic practices of the regular IHM shcool day. Hard work pays off!
May all band members, past…present…and future, continue to proudly bring Our Lady into the world of today by their good actions!

This prayer is said by the band members before every practice, performance and parade…

O Queen and commander of thy servant who humbly stands before thee, I give to thee all my works. Take and cleanse them and present them to my Sovereign Lord. I beg thee in turn to grant me holy desires.

Thine I am and thine I wish to be. Therefore may my performances show Christ's strength in me in order to bring joy to thy Immaculate Heart, encouragement to the faithful, and good example for all who see me.

I long to be an imitation of Him, the Light of the World, for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Amen.

"Music rouses the emotions, it calls the senses to a different quality. In battles, the music of the trumpet fires the warriors, and the more impetuous its loud sound the braver is the spirit for fighting…
Music also comforts the mind in the enduring of labors… Whatever we say or whatever emotions we feel within from the beating of our impulses, it is proven that they are brought ito communion with the virtues through the musical rythms of harmony." –Saint Isidore
"You are the Light of the world…
Let your light shine before men…so that all may see your good works…
and glorify your Father in heaven."
